The new Hyundai Ioniq 6 will undercut Tesla as an ELECTRIC car that’s designed like a boat and has 700 lights | The Sun

HYUNDAI has revealed its latest electric car, the Ioniq 6.

It follows the Ioniq 5, which has won multiple awards around the world for its design and drive and will take on cars like the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is, er, not quite so easy on the eye – although looks are subjective, of course. Hmm.

All car designers have aerodynamics at the front of their minds when sketching, but the Ioniq 6 looks like it was crafted in a wind tunnel.

It says the rear is designed to look a bit like a boat and calls the 6 a 'steamliner' rather than a saloon. Make your own mind up.

Something we can all agree is cool are the 700 Parametric Pixel lights found all over it.

Hyundai says they are 'in various places, such as headlamps, rear combination lamps, front lower sensors, air vent garnishes and centre console indicator, to reinforce the IONIQ brand’s identity throughout the vehicle.'

New laws starting TODAY could mean LIFE in prison for common bad driving habit

Still, Hyundai promised a quirky look for the 6 and we got one, plus it is now the most aerodynamic Hyundai and one of the slipperiest new cars full stop, which will help its electric range.

Although Hyundai hasn't revealed exact figures, there should be a choice of batteries ranging from 58kWh to 77.4kWh in size.

The largest battery will probably mean a range of more than 300 miles.

It's also likely that rear or all-wheel-drive will be on the cards and even a sporty 'N' version with more than 570hp that'll crack 0-62mph in less than 3.5 seconds.

Inside Hyundai hasn't given much away just yet but the Ioniq 6 will seat five people and its insides will be made from sustainable materials.

There are twin 12-inch screens for the infotainment and driver's dials and efforts have been made to do away with as many buttons as possible. It's all bathed in ambient lighting too.

We can also see from these images that cameras may be used in place of traditional door mirrors – although we don't know if this will make production.

The Ioniq 6 will go on sale next year and although prices aren't confirmed it should come in at around £45,000 making it slightly cheaper than a Model 3.
