Estate agents Douglas & Gordon named the top 10 UK towns which they said are “perfect for retiring”. They looked at factors such as average rent and house prices, restaurants, and the number of parks and golf courses.

Twickenham

Twickenham, located in southwest London was ranked the best place to retire in the whole of the UK.

Rents and house prices are higher than in most of the other towns but despite this, Twickenham offers many other benefits to retirees.

The town has plenty of transport links, many parks and three golf courses for those who play.

Residents of Twickenham shared their thoughts on Tripadvisor with @MarkMahoney recommending the York House Gardens if retirees are looking for a place to relax.

He explained: “Really nice and tranquil gardens with fountains, wildlife and gardens. The riverside is also nearby. Great spot for picnics.”

Some other popular parks in Twickenham are Strawberry Hill House and Garden and Crane Park.

Visitors described Strawberry Hill House as a “very special place”. A Tripadvisor user explained: “What a wonderful place, so glad this has been preserved for all to enjoy.

“It’s a lovely step back in time, we have recommended it to others.”

Some of the best pubs in the town are The White Swan, The Cabbage Patch, The Sussex Arms and The Prince Albert.

Richmond

Twickenham was followed by Richmond, also in southwest London, as the best town for Britons to retire in.

The London neighbourhood has the highest average house and rent prices on the list but also offers 350 parks, including the famous Richmond Park, and over 377 restaurants to try out.

Bromley

Bromley, in south London, is the third best town for Britons to relocate to.

It offers retirees the best of both worlds when it comes to living near a city and escaping to the countryside.

House prices and rent prices are not as high and it is a great location with plenty for retirees to do.
