Undercover Boss: Single mom gets $60,000 from CEO
Undercover Boss USA involves the chief executive and heads of organisations going undercover to learn more about the day-to-day operations of the businesses they run. One woman was gifted $60,000 (£48,305.29) from her boss who went undercover to see how she does her job.
Travis Boersma, CEO of drive-through coffee chain Dutch Bros, appeared on the hit CBS reality television show.
While on the programme, he visited one of the company’s sites in Napa, Idaho as “Sam” where he became a “Broista” for a day.
This is the term given to baristas who work at Dutch Bros locations with an emphasis on them being hardworking and upbeat.
Examples of the type of tasks the Undercover Boss is expected to do include providing excellent customer service, taking orders and making drinks.
While in Idaho, the Undercover Boss met Banesa, one of his employees working at the Napha site.
She charged Mr Boersma with the task of speaking to customers at the drive-through while she made the drinks.
She said: “Our customers are our number one priority. You see that I’m greeting everybody. and that’s what it’s about. We’re creating a relationship with them.”
Despite being her boss, Banesa did have some advice for the CEO of Dutch Bros. on how he can provide better customer service as he ended up talking about himself more than learning about the people he was serving.
The worker added: “One thing that Sam can work on, it’s just remembering that it’s about the customer and not about himself.”
After his shift, Mr Boersma learned more about Banesa’s backstory including that she is not married and has a son with Down’s Syndrome.
One of the things that she wanted to start in her local area was a community garden to bring people together.
Between her hard work at his company, philanthropy and challenging home life, the chief executive decided to share his true identity with her and provide support.
After doing this, the Undercover Boss said: “Banessa, you’ve got a special, selfless spirit about you.
“What I want to do is form a foundation with money from it going to causes that Boristas believe in.
“I would like for you to be the first recipient of $50,000 (£40,254.41) from the Love and Balance Foundation.
“There’s one more thing I want to give you $10,000 (£8,050.88) on top of that, but that is for you.
“I know you’re so selfless. I want to make sure that you’re going to use it for you and your kids.”
Reacting to the gift, one YouTube commenter named Kevin Huynh said: “She deserves it. Hardworking, and selfless. Nothing means more to her than her kids.”
Another called Steve Eick added: “What a wonderful mom and employee, Mr Boersma is a wonderful and kindhearted man, I thought he was truly inspiring.”
