WhatsApp users warned not to send mysterious message that constantly CRASHES your Android app | The Sun

WHATSAPP users have been warned not to type a very specific message as it will mysteriously crash the app.

The popular messaging service apparently goes berserk whenever you try to open the affected chat.

It seems to only impact users on Android.

Bug hunter Pandya Mayur discovered the weird issue and reported it on Twitter.

The message is simply a URL: w.me/settings.

Curious Android users should not send it in a message if they want to avoid a WhatsApp headache.

Usually, the link takes you straight to WhatsApp settings.

The only way to stop it from crashing is by opening WhatsApp Web.

From there, you can delete the message and all should work again.

"Don't send this message(http://w.me/settings) to anyone chat," Pandya said.

Fortunately it'll only go belly up if you open the affected chat – you can continue opening other conversations up with no issues.

It's not clear why the crash happens with this specific URL but Meta will probably fix it at some point.

Strangely it's not the first time something like this has happened.

Back in 2018, a specific Telugu language character caused iPhones to freeze.
